Thin Clients Clearly Explained

by Joseph T. Sinclair and Mark Merkow

The thin client (network computer) is a powerful idea. However the decline in the price of PCs to the point where they're actually less expensive than network computers in many cases has undermined the widespread deployment of network computers. This is only a temporary situation, as the trend in software applications is to be delivered on-demand via the Web.

Specifically, the book covers the advantages and disadvantages of network computing while featuring the Citrix system of server-powered Windows programs. Although my co-author's network expertise endowed the book with vital information, I worked hard to insure that non-network administrators (ordinary computer users) can understand the technical aspects of network computing.

Since the book was published in 1999, Oracle has come out with yet another system of network computing featuring new products. And the Citrix system continues to thrive.
